murraydeschot - t5r_front.jpg
This is the car that during the 2003 show season became known as "ULTIMATE STEALTH", picking up 1st place in the inaugral Dutch EMMA Contest at 6 Flags and ending the year crowned 2nd Rookie Unlimited Class SQ and Installation in the Dutch Finals./PPI have now sold the car and the system''s been removed. However, I''m leaving this on SYS as a showcase and legacy - a guide to how Boyd''s of Purmerend created ULTIMATE STEALTH. |

... you''re presented with THIS! Around 2,000 watts RMS of extremely High-end XTANT Sound System (Surely one the most precise Car Audio Electronics Marques in the World!) in a car that can now proudly be called "ULTIMATE STEALTH by TEAM BOYD''S". Completely trimmed-out in Anthracite Alcantara (matching the Alcantara of the Volvo''s interior PERFECTLY). and paying homage to the system builder, the BOYD''S logo expertly-embroidered in the centre of the instal. ULTIMATE STEALTH? Most definitely! PURE CLASS? Oh! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Sit back, relax, enjoy the show and, please, remember to cast a SENSIBLE vote. ;-)... |

Would you trust a man attempting to build himself a Porsche Polo?!!! Well, for the instal in the Volvo I had to! I had neither the time, nor the expertise to instal such a high-end system myself, so please meet Handyman aka Coerd, TEAM BOYD''S Member, BOYD''S Chief Installer and International Member of Team Zapco. What follows is the sequence of events detailing the transformation of the Volvo into a stunning sounding "stealth" car, able to excite the listener, yet also transport the Monsters we lovingly call Atka and Bear around. Enjoy the experience as you go on a step-by-step guide to "ULTIMATE STEALTH - The Installation" ... |

The installation of the Alpine F#1-Status CDA-7990R Head Unit. In the run-up to the Dutch EMMA Finals in Utrecht, the F#1 Status was taken out of the car and sent away to Alpine''s Service Guys, as it had been skipping a wee bit and the Bio-lite display was also a wee bit dimmer than it ought to have been. Meet Andre Mol. THE "Driving Force" behind TEAM BOYD''S, former Sound Quality Judge and, in my opinion anyway, one of the most knowledgable guys in the entire Dutch Car Audio scene. Next, on to the doors and door panels. The standard door panels, however luxurious in their build of high quality plastic, mega-expensive alcantara and plush carpeting have one slight disadvantage with the system that we''ve planned. There is only space to house one 5 inch speaker and, well, I''m going three-way up front. Which brand? Wait and see! ;-) |

Oh Shit! I''ve entrusted this man to provide the speaker ideas!!! ;-) Andre showing off one of his hand made door baffles. Now, I know that I''ve been most secretive recently regarding the speakers that Andre has recommended for this high-end system, so at last, here we go ... Micro Precision. Micro Precision are a VERY high-quality German-designed and hand built range, but only offering two-way component sets, so with a lot of discussion between Andre and the designer of Micro Precision speakers, the following set-up was suggested. Use the 7-series tweeters and the 3-series Mid Range Speakers with the Micro Precision 7-series crossovers driven by one of the Xtant 2150c Amplifiers. Whilst the other Xtant 2150c Amplifier will actively drive a pair of 7-series 6 inch Mid bass drivers. I trust Andre ... implicitly. This is the way I WILL go. |

Second stage, strip the door and, VERY VERY VERY!!!! Important, make sure you remove ALL moisture from inside the door. Otherwise, you''ll trap moisture between the bitumen and the metal ... the result a year of the doors sounding great, followed by rust appearing all over the place!!! Follow my example, and set the hot air gun to a moderate setting (you don''t want to blister the paint!), go grab a coffee and let the hot air gun dry the doors completely. |

Sounding? As Olaf Mol would say "Money talks, Bullshit walks!"/PPWhen I originally consulted with Andre and Coerd regarding this system I had three main criteria I wanted tackled. 1) I love progressive/uplifting trance and hard house music, in this system I wanted to be able to shut my eyes (obviously NOT whilst driving!) when the system was playing and imagine myself in the middle of the dancefloor of an Amsterdam club at 3 am on a Sunday morning - That''s what I got! 1000% of it - Powerful, Brutal, Unforgiving and Amazing in ALL it''s dynamics!!! Secondly, I didn''t want to compromise the load space of the car in order to achieve this - Two Rapidly-growing Malamute puppies being the sole reason why I''m driving a Volvo. And thirdly, my intention was very much to create a high-SQ car, and although not intended as a "boom" car, as we can see here, Joop registered 141.2dB from the Mean Machine - the highest SPL reading of the day. This is from two 12-inch Xtant subs running in a 70-ish litre sealed enclosure - Amazing, ABSOFUCKEDLY amazing!!! |
